چکیده

• Development of a novel simulation tool for magnesium membrane crystallizer. Use selective membranes allows low-cost alkaline reactants. Original experimental information in batch and feed & bleed configurations. Model validation via comparison with experiments use process analysis. Increasing attention is nowadays paid to the management valorisation industrial waste brines aiming also at recovery raw materials. Magnesium has been listed as Critical Raw Material by EU, prompting researchers investigate routes its recovery. Within this framework, Crystallizer Ion Exchange Membrane (CrIEM), proposed an innovative way recover from exploiting In present work, mathematical model CrIEM provide useful design different working conditions. Batch continuous configurations have investigated taking into account: (i) variation brine concentration their own collection tanks over time (ii) spatial mono-dimensional (1D) steady-state description main phenomena that occur inside CrIEM. data, ad-hoc laboratory tests, literature were used validate both configuration. A good agreement between predictions experimental/literature data was found cases, thus proving reliability reactor.

ORWARE - A simulation tool for waste management

A simulation model, ORWARE (ORganic WAste REsearch) is described. The model is used for environmental systems analysis of waste management. It is a computer-based model for calculation of substance flows, environmental impacts, and costs of waste management. The model covers, despite the name, both organic and inorganic fractions in municipal waste. The model consists of a number of separate su...

a study on thermodynamic models for simulation of 1,3 butadiene purification columns

attempts have been made to study the thermodynamic behavior of 1,3 butadiene purification columns with the aim of retrofitting those columns to more energy efficient separation schemes. 1,3 butadiene is purified in two columns in series through being separated from methyl acetylene and 1,2 butadiene in the first and second column respectively. comparisons have been made among different therm...

Membrane Condenser for Particulate Abatement from Waste-Gaseous Streams

Membrane Condenser (MC) is a novel membrane contactor operation recently investigated for the valorization of industrial waste gaseous streams. In particular, until now, it was applied for water recovery from flue gas, cooling tower plumes, etc. More recently, its effectiveness and flexibility in contaminants (such as, NH3 , HF, SO2 ) removal and control from waste gaseous streams was also prov...

Improved brine recycling during nitrate removal using ion exchange.

Ion exchange technology is currently the best for removing nitrate from drinking water. However, problems related to the disposal of spent brine from regeneration of exhausted resins must be overcome so that ion exchange can be applied more widely and economically, especially in small communities. For this purpose, a novel spent brine recycling system using combined biological denitrification a...

Applicability of ion exchange for NOM removal from a sulfate rich surface water incorporating full reuse of the brine

The raw water of water treatment works ‘the Blankaart’ (Belgium) is characterized by high levels of NOM and alkalinity. From 2006 until present, the possibility of applying fluidized ion exchange for NOM removal at the Blankaart plant has been investigated. Although the efficiency of ion exchange with respect to NOM removal has already been demonstrated by numerous studies on a wide range of ra...
